Industrial Architecture is known for its unique characteristics. Characteristics that consider aspects such as planning spaces, aesthetic value, materials and passive design where natural light and ventilation can penetrate to the spaces.
Here’s a 2 Storey Industrial Style Mixed Use Building with 300 square meters. There are five (5) Commercial Units on the ground floor and also five (5) Residential Units on the second floor.
RESIDENTIAL
The Residential considers the character of Industrial Architecture. In terms of Open planning, the design is a studio type unit with Foyer, Dining, Kitchen, Closet, A Space for TV Console and Bed. In terms of Passive Design, Natural Ventilation can Penetrate to the entire unit as it has awning windows in Toilet and bath as well as the upper portion of the curtain wall in the living area with sliding door heading to the balcony of the unit. For passive daylight the design incorporates not only the curtain wall but also a skylight in the ceiling.
There is also a toilet and bath that considers aesthetic value by exposing the raw materials and users can actually place their own indoor plants as industrial style is open for enhancement of aesthetics.
COMMERCIAL
In terms of Material, not only in residential but also in the commercial and to the entire building it uses Concrete, Bricks, Metal, Glass, and Wood. It also considers the aesthetic value of incorporating pendant lighting, exposing the raw materials as well as the elements of the structure such as beam and steel supports.
INCORPORATING INNOVATIONS
Industrial Architecture as adaptive not only to new materials but also to new movements or innovations and technologies. Because of the Pandemic, Al fresco dining should be considered as it gives the user an experience for an outdoor dining with fresh air and not in an enclosed space
Accessibility is a must, Not only the dimensions of the walkways, the stairs but also for the Person with Disabilities (PWDs). The Building incorporates PWD Lift and ramps.
Industrial Style is letting the building materials and elements be exposed and considered as the main design. Not hiding elements such beams, posts, and even under the stairs. The design utilized spaces by orienting the administrative office and waste/ trash bins on the other stairs.
Industrial Architecture is giving an opportunity to let the users appreciate the materials and innovations or new technologies to be incorporated in a design. In this style, the material and technologies are considered as “the art and design”.
