Building your house isn’t only about the structure itself. The lot that it stands on matters just as much and you have to consider its size or shape to efficiently use the space, making it fit for your own home. This could determine what type of house and layout suit best that will maximize the given lot while being able to provide your needs.
You can have a couple of different layout configurations in a 150-sqm lot and listed below are some project examples that you may also do for your own humble abode:
- Bungalow
A bungalow is characterized as a single-storey house or dwelling that is of modest size, and typically has a low-pitched roof and covered porch. The name bungalow, although this type was more known in the American side, came from India and was inspired by their small ‘bungla’ huts.
The sample bungalow house shown above features: living area, dining area, kitchen, service area, master’s bedroom with T&B and walk-in-closet, boy’s bedroom, girl’s bedroom, common T&B, porch, lanai, and a two-car carport.
The living area is typically the most used and gathered space in your home. It is where the family bonds while watching television, or where your guests and relatives lounge when they pay a visit. This area is also sometimes the main focal point upon entering the house. The living area in this project is 9.69 sqm.
The dining area and kitchen are often situated adjacent or right next to one another, and ideally have an open layout/plan. Aside from being a prep space for meals, these areas can also be used for gatherings. The dining area in this project is 5.72 sqm, and the kitchen is 10.80 sqm.
The master’s bedroom is usually where the head of the family, like parents, sleep and have their own personal nook. This room is often the largest in a house and may have its own toilet and bath. The master’s bedroom in this project is 9.38 sqm plus T&B and walk-in-closet.
You can also fit in one to two more bedrooms despite it being a single-storey or bungalow type of house in a 150-sqm lot. Having these additional rooms is perfect for a family with children but the space could serve for other uses too, like a guest room or home office. The bedrooms in this project range from 6.60 to 7.16 sqm. The house has two.
2. Two-Storey House
Aside from maximizing the whole span of the lot, you can also make use of vertical height by adding another storey or floor level to your house. It gives you extra space for more rooms, therefore accommodating more occupants and things to store.
The sample two-storey house shown above features: living area, dining area, kitchen with pantry, master’s bedroom with T&B and walk-in-closet, boy’s bedroom, girl’s bedroom, common T&B, family room, maid’s room, service area, porch, lanai, and a carport.
The living area is also considered to be the receiving area since it is where we usually accommodate visitors or guests, aside from being the main ‘hangout’ space for the family. We often allot more space for this area because of that purpose. The living area in this project is 14.11 sqm.
The dining area and kitchen ideally have an open layout/plan for a better or convenient workflow between these two spaces. The dining area and kitchen in this project have a total of 24.54 sqm.
One benefit of having more space in your house is a provision for a family room, or the ‘second living area’. It is typically found on the upper floor level, making it a more intimate and personal space for the family to gather around. The family room in this project is 13.24 sqm.
Given the name, the master’s bedroom is often the largest in a house and usually has its own toilet and bath – made for the “master” or head of the family. The master’s bedroom in this project is 17.40 sqm plus a T&B and walk-in-closet.
With a two-storey house on a 150-sqm lot, more bedrooms can be added aside from the master’s bedroom. There is enough space for two or three extra rooms, perhaps the ones for the children, or could be just a guest room for visitors. The bedrooms in this project range from 10.15 to 10.26 sqm. The house has two.
