The emphasis is on shared or common spaces, such as the living area and family area. These zones are frequently used for socializing within the home, and they must be built to provide adequate room for users.
Indoor Plants
Because the Philippines has a tropical environment, incorporating plants into the interior spaces is also part of the Filipino style. Adding a few foliage to the combination can help the user’s health. Aside from cleaning the air, the color green has a positive psychological effect, encouraging peace and relaxation.
Wood
In terms of interior design, wood is likely to be the most prominent material. Natural and local materials are typically less expensive and are an excellent choice because we live in a tropical environment.
High Ceilings
The high ceilings are another key aspect of a Filipino style. This style supports a higher ceiling than a typical height in order to provide a solution to the hot humid atmosphere. This allows for increased air circulation in spaces, which is ideal for relaxing.
Huge Windows
A Filipino characteristic is having windows that are wider and taller than a typical window. Large openings allow for improved air circulation, which is suitable in tropical climates.
Aside from improved air circulation, having large windows allows for more natural light to enter the home. Natural illumination has been shown to be superior to artificial lighting in several areas, including a person’s health and productivity.
