American to Filipino Craftsman Houses

American to Filipino Craftsman Houses

The American Craftsman style, often known as the American Arts and Crafts movement, and is considered modern eclectic architecture. It was popular as a comprehensive design and art trend far into the 1930s, and several revivals and restoration initiatives have persisted to this day. Adapting this style to Philippine architecture is unquestionably not that far removed from our own, because it emphasizes the craftsmanship of its design

The traits that characterize the American artisan style are listed below, along with how they might be related and how it can be adapted to a Filipino craftsman style.

Exterior View

Large front porches with low-slung gabled roofs and pedestal-like tapering columns. This may undoubtedly be adapted to our Filipino homes, as it is quite similar to the “bahay na bato design,” which makes use of large columns as support. The large front porches are a terrific way to show how welcoming a Filipino home is, especially because we are known for our friendliness and hospitality.

Kitchen and Dining View

A fluid flow from the kitchen to the family and dining rooms, making them ideal for today’s “open plan” living. Because Filipinos are known for their openness, the settings are warm and welcoming. This also makes the interior rooms more large by maximizing them. Because the majority of Filipino households are small.

Living Area (fireplace)

Craftsman interiors are intended to be welcoming, warm, and unobtrusive. Because they have a winter season, Craftsman houses in America contain reading nooks or fireplaces. This is also adaptable to Filipino homes. Today, most homes utilize humidifiers to add moisture to the air because heat dries everything out. We may turn these places into humidifiers by replacing the fire with humidifiers that provide the same smoke effect while also providing moisture to the room.

Front View

The four major roof shapes are front gabled, cross gabled, side gabled, and hipped roof. This will also aid in the ventilation of our home; air will be able to circulate throughout the house, and hot air will rise, keeping the room cool.
